The Edge of Yesterday

Another song, I am working on a theme "Songs from Hern Road"....

The Edge of Yesterday © Darren O'Dell 2009

VERSE 1

Just off of Hern Road
I used to pass by
This old retaining wall
In a field on the side
It was all on its own
Abandoned and grey
Living on the edge of yesterday

VERSE 2

That old retaining wall
In a field on the side
Of a bend in Hern Road
From the world it would hide
Made of concrete and steel
Against the forces at play
Living on the edge of yesterday

CHORUS

Living on the edge of yesterday
One step behind of what’s in the way
On a cold concrete wall
I’m just sitting alone
A few hundred yards
From my old childhood home

Verse 3

How did it get here?
This old retaining wall
All alone in a field
Doing nothing at all
The same could be asked
Of a young fool I’d say
Living on the edge of yesterday

Verse 4

It was about 3 miles
Just a stroll down Ol’ Hern
From my place to hers
Where we took out turn
Rollin’ up and down
And around in the hay
Living on the edge of yesterday

CHORUS (Repeat)

Verse 5

She got sent off
To fight her a war
Gone way over seas
And never heard from no more
On this old retaining wall
Is where I intend to stay
Living on the edge of yesterday

Just off of Hern Road
I used to pass by
This old retaining wall
In a field on the side

In my head I hear a bluegrass 3/4 time harmony thing..
